My infant daughter is asleep, my husband Jake is dead, and the drug that might have kept him alive long enough to meet her languishes on a shelf—out of reach of other dying husbands and fathers.
THIS IS AMAZING, Bess. Congratulations--for lending your incredible expertise and for engaging with the "how" of our System of medical treatment.
I am a death doula in Florida and connected with Compassion & Choices, the org shepherding Medical Aid in Dying through legislatures and courts in many states. Their argument around access is very similar to what HB701 proposes. I just sent a note to folks at C&C to alert them to your work and its synergies. I realize that third-line treatment access and end-of-life agency appear diametrically opposed at first blush, but maybe they're not? Fascinating and devastating and somehow still full of hope. I love reading your work because I learn so much! And at the same time my heart breaks for everything you’ve had to endure to learn this yourself and share it with the world
How do we all go support this everywhere
Thank you for so beautifully linking the gap between human struggle to the systems meant to help us. May Jake’s memory be a blessing.

Well done, Bess. Clinical trial rules are a mess.
Bess...I am holding space for you and your daughter. 💕
