I'm taking a wellness tip from you and compartmentalising -- it feels utterly criminal to have enjoyed your writing so thoroughly on such a heartbreaking topic. You are a brilliant writer and cancer is the scum of the earth

"Asked Jake to eschew a clinical trial and instead go to a sketchy clinic in Tijuana where he would receive coffee enemas three times a day "

I had a friend die of testicular cancer exactly that way, eschewing early treatment for what was probably a treatable illness.

It was Gerson Therapy? Gelson? One of them is a supermarket. The other caused my friend to die. Both of them have coffee, though. So hopefully the confusion is understandable.

As an aside related to inadequate lidocaine use, I'm guessing you attract into your life a slightly above average number of neurodivergent people. (As I do.) Have you seen the early work on lidocaine resistance in people with ADHD?

Thanks :) Now I also have a very detailed mental image of the grim reaper in fancy tennis shoes and his black robe getting elbowed out of the way by Jake who is in even fancier tennis shoes, slamming a plastic bag full of the clinical trial study drug he's getting through the hoop. My brain is a strange place...
